{"id":100008,"date":"2026-04-24T13:32:29","date_gmt":"2026-04-24T08:02:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=100008"},"modified":"2026-04-24T13:32:29","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T08:02:29","slug":"lower-lake","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/lower-lake\/","title":{"rendered":"Lower Lake"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Lower Lake Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The central bench of National Green Tribunal (NGT) in its order directed the MP Pollution Control Board (MPPCB) to inspect the Lower Lake and present a detailed report with photographs with latitude and longitude details in support of its findings.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Lower Lake<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lower Lake, also known as <\/span><b>Chhota Talaab<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, is a <\/span><b>man-made lake<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> located in the city of <\/span><b>Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was <\/span><b>built in 1794 by Chote Khan,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a <\/span><b>minister of Nawab Hayat Muhammad Khan Bahadur,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to beautify the city. Several earlier wells were merged in this lake.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Chota Talaab, along with<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the <\/span><b>nearby Upper Lake\/<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bada Talaab, <\/span><b>constitutes <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/bhoj-wetland\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bhoj Wetland<\/a>,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which is now a <\/span><b>Ramsar site.<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Lower Lake <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is positioned to the <\/span><b>east of the Upper Lake<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The <\/span><b>two lakes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are <\/span><b>separated by<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> an <\/span><b>overbridge called Pul Pukhta <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">or<\/span><b> Lower Lake Bridge.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>two lakes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are <\/span><b>constructed in a terraced way<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">; the lowest level of the Upper Lake is just underneath the highest stage of the Lower Lake.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Supplying water <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to almost <\/span><b>40% of the residents in Bhopal<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, these lakes play a vital role in serving the city.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Lower Lake has an area of 1.29 sq. km and a catchment area of 9.6 sq. km.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Lower Lake does not have any sparkling water supply.
