of the Konark Sun Temple in Odisha&#8217;s Puri district.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Konark Sun Temple<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is located on the <\/span><b>coastline of<\/b> <b>Odisha in the Puri district.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also called the <\/span><b>Surya Devalaya,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the temple is <\/span><b>dedicated to the Hindu sun god Surya.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Textual evidence indicates that<\/span><b> Narasimha I (<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">who reigned between 1238 and 1264) of the <\/span><b>Eastern Ganga dynasty built the temple in 1250 <\/b><b>CE<\/b><b>.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was designated a <\/span><b>UNESCO World Heritage Site<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in 1984.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Konark Sun Temple <\/b><b>Features<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a classic example of the <\/span><b>Odisha style of architecture, or Kalinga architecture.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The height of the Sun Temple at Konark is estimated to be around 227 feet, making it <\/span><b>one of the tallest temples ever built in the country.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>temple complex has the appearance<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of a <\/span><b>100-foot-high solar chariot<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, with <\/span><b>24 wheels and pulled by six horses, all carved from stone.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is <\/span><b>oriented towards the east <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">so that the <\/span><b>first rays of the sunrise strike the main entrance.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>wheels <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of the temple <\/span><b>are sundials,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which can be <\/span><b>used to calculate time accurately to a minute.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Around the base of the temple, there are images of animals, foliage, warriors on horses, and other interesting structures.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The temple also features <\/span><b>elaborate stone carvings <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">depicting scenes from Hindu mythology.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The temple was constructed using <\/span><b>three types of stones<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2013 the <\/span><b>laterite stone for the boundary walls, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">flooring, and staircase;
