{"id":10223,"date":"2024-04-25T03:06:10","date_gmt":"2024-04-24T21:36:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=10223"},"modified":"2025-10-11T12:38:36","modified_gmt":"2025-10-11T07:08:36","slug":"kalesar-national-park","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/kalesar-national-park\/","title":{"rendered":"Kalesar Wildlife Sanctuary"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Kalesar Wildlife Sanctuary:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Location<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>It is located in the eastern part of Yamunanagar district in <strong>Haryana<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Covering an area of 11,000 acres, it is situated in the <strong>Shivalik foothills<\/strong> of the <strong>Himalayas<\/strong>.\n<ul>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/key-facts-about-yamuna-river\/\" target=\"_blank\">Yamuna River<\/a> runs to the east.<\/li>\n<li>The sanctuary <strong>derives its name from<\/strong> the <strong>Kalesar Forest<\/strong>, which is a part of the reserve.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Topography:<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It varies from <strong>plains to hills<\/strong> up to an elevation of 700 m, <strong>interspersed withnarrow valleys<\/strong> locally <strong>called \u2018khols\u2019<\/strong> between the hills.<\/li>\n<li>These <strong>valleys houseseasonal rivulets<\/strong> locally <strong>called \u2018soats\u2019<\/strong> which remain dry for most of the year.\n<ul>\n<li>The sanctuary houses the <strong>Kalesar Fort,<\/strong> which is believed to have been built during the reign of the <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/aurangzeb-and-fall-of-mughals\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Mughal emperor Aurangzeb<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>It is also famous for its <strong>Dak bungalows<\/strong>, the <strong>administrative architectural bungalows<\/strong> built in <strong>colonial times<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Flora<\/strong>: Mainly, the forest has trees like <strong>sal, khair, shisam, tun, sain,<\/strong> and amla.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fauna<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>It is home to many species of animals, including <strong>leopards, sambar deer, barking<\/strong> deer, hyenas, jackals, Indian porcupines, Indian pangolins, and langurs.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The sanctuary is also home to several species of birds, such as the <strong>red junglefowl, grey partridge,<\/strong> Indian peafowl, and white-throated kingfisher.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Q1: What are Dak bungalows?<\/h2>\n<p>Dak bungalows were a convenience for British officers detailed to set up and maintain outposts of the East India Company throughout India in the 19th century.
