{"id":10259,"date":"2023-04-29T04:36:10","date_gmt":"2023-04-28T23:06:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=10259"},"modified":"2025-03-29T19:09:24","modified_gmt":"2025-03-29T13:39:24","slug":"what-is-the-sun-halo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/what-is-the-sun-halo\/","title":{"rendered":"What is the Sun Halo?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Sun halo:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>What is it?<\/strong> It is an optical phenomenon that occurs <strong>due to sunlight refracting millions of hexagonal ice crystals<\/strong> suspended in the atmosphere.<\/li>\n<li><strong>How it is formed?<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>When white light passes through <strong>unique hexagonal ice crystals<\/strong> found in <strong>upper-level cirrus clouds<\/strong>, causing the halo to have colours.<\/li>\n<li>The clouds contain millions of tiny ice crystals, which refract and split the light to give an impression of a circular rainbow ring.<\/li>\n<li>The crystals have to be oriented and positioned just so with respect to your eye, for the halo to appear.<\/li>\n<li>Light undergoes <strong>two refractions<\/strong> as it passes through the ice crystals and the bending that occurs depends on the ice crystal&#8217;s diameter.<\/li>\n<li>The two refractions <strong>bend the light by 22 degrees<\/strong> from its original point, producing a ring of light around the Sun or the Moon.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>lunar halos<\/strong> are mostly colourless as moonlight is not very bright.<\/li>\n<li>In the case of the Sun, these colours are more noticeable and appear as bright as a rainbow.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What are Cirrus clouds?<\/h3>\n<p>Cirrus clouds are a type of high-altitude cloud that are composed of ice crystals. They are thin, wispy, and often appear as long, white, feather-like clouds, stretched out across the sky.
