{"id":102633,"date":"2026-05-09T12:37:40","date_gmt":"2026-05-09T07:07:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=102633"},"modified":"2026-05-09T12:37:40","modified_gmt":"2026-05-09T07:07:40","slug":"tactical-advanced-range-augmentation-weapon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/tactical-advanced-range-augmentation-weapon\/","title":{"rendered":"Tactical Advanced Range Augmentation Weapon"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Tactical Advanced Range Augmentation weapon Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Air Force (IAF) successfully conducted the maiden flight-trial of Tactical Advanced Range Augmentation (TARA) weapon off the coast of Odisha.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Tactical Advanced Range Augmentation weapon<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is India\u2019s first <\/span><b>indigenous glide weapon system<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to convert <\/span><b>unguided warheads into precision guided weapons.<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Glide weapon system <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">once <\/span><b>released from an aircraft,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the system <\/span><b>uses aerodynamic lift and onboard guidance mechanisms<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to glide towards a target instead of falling directly under gravity like a conventional free-fall bomb.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TARA has been designed and developed by <\/span><b>Research Centre Imarat<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (RCI), Hyderabad along with other DRDO laboratories.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Features of TARA Weapon<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is <\/span><b>developed to enhance the lethality<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and accuracy of a low-cost weapon to neutralise ground-based targets.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It enables stand-off attacks from safer distances.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It improves targeting accuracy against ground-based targets.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It <\/span><b>uses modular architecture<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for compatibility with existing munitions<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It <\/span><b>incorporates low<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-cost indigenous guidance technologies.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It supports rapid <\/span><b>integration with Indian Air Force platforms.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the first glide weapon to utilize <\/span><b>state-of-the-art low-cost systems.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The development of the kit has been undertaken with Development cum Production Partners (DcPP) &amp;
