the Ministry of External Affairs reiterating that the Treaty will remain suspended until Pakistan credibly abjures cross-border terrorism.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>About the Indus Waters Treaty<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) is a water-sharing agreement signed between India and Pakistan on September 19, 1960, with the World Bank acting as a facilitator.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Treaty was signed by Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and Pakistani President Mohammed Ayub Khan, after nearly nine years of negotiations brokered by the World Bank.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Treaty governs the sharing of the waters of six major transboundary rivers of the Indus river system flowing through both countries:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Eastern Rivers: Ravi, Beas, and style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>India&#8217;s Decision to Hold the Treaty in Abeyance<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Following the Pahalgam terror attack in April 2025 and the subsequent <\/span><b>Operation Sindoor<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, India
