


{"id":10303,"date":"2023-04-30T06:24:17","date_gmt":"2023-04-30T00:54:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=10303"},"modified":"2025-03-29T19:26:04","modified_gmt":"2025-03-29T13:56:04","slug":"telecom-regulatory-authority-of-india-trai","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/telecom-regulatory-authority-of-india-trai\/","title":{"rendered":"Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI):<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a <strong>regulatory body set up by the Government of India<\/strong> <strong>under<\/strong> section 3 of the <strong>Telecom Regulatory Authority of India Act, 1997<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It is the <strong>regulator of the telecommunications sector<\/strong> in India.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Composition<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>It <strong>consists of a Chairperson and not more than two full-time members<\/strong>, and <strong>not more than two part-time members.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The chairperson and the members of TRAI are <strong>appointed by the Central Government,<\/strong> and <strong>the duration<\/strong> for which they can hold their office <strong>is three years or until they attain the age of 65 years<\/strong>, whichever is earlier.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Government Control over TRAI:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>TRAI is <strong>not a completely independent telecom regulator<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Under section 25 of the Act, <strong>it has the power to issue directions<\/strong> which are <strong>binding on TRAI.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The TRAI is also <strong>funded by the Central Government.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Functions<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Making recommendations<\/strong> on various issues;<\/li>\n<li>General administrative and <strong>regulatory functions<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fixing tariffs and rates for telecom<\/strong> <strong>services<\/strong>;
