recently launched India\u2019s first AI-enabled block-level monsoon forecasting system to deliver hyperlocal rainfall and onset predictions weeks in advance. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Block-Level Monsoon Forecasting System<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is <\/span><b>India\u2019s first <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">artificial intelligence<\/span><b> (AI)-enabled monsoon advance forecasting model <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">launched by the <\/span><b>India Meteorological Department (IMD).<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was <\/span><b>developed in collaboration with<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the <\/span><b>Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Pune<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and the <\/span><b>National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting (NCMRWF).\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It aims to <\/span><b>deliver hyperlocal, impact-based, and AI-driven weather services<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> across the country.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It <\/span><b>combines existing numerical weather prediction models with AI<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to generate <\/span><b>probabilistic forecasts of monsoon progression every Wednesday up to four weeks in advance,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with a model error margin of around four days.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The system will base its assessment on the onset of a continuous five-day rainfall spell and the absence of prolonged dry spells over the subsequent 30 days.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It will <\/span><b>disseminate alerts through mobile applications, SMS<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><b>local agricultural extension networks.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The forecasting system<\/span><b> currently covers 3,196 blocks across 15 states and one Union Territory,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> largely concentrated in rainfed regions <\/span><b>where monsoon onset plays a critical role<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in agriculture and water management.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li
