{"id":103338,"date":"2026-05-14T12:56:45","date_gmt":"2026-05-14T07:26:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=103338"},"modified":"2026-05-14T12:56:45","modified_gmt":"2026-05-14T07:26:45","slug":"national-sports-development-fund","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/national-sports-development-fund\/","title":{"rendered":"National Sports Development Fund"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>National Sports Development Fund Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, it was revealed through the Right To Information (RTI) Act that Contributions to the National Sports Development Fund (NSDF) have more than halved in three years between 2023-24 to\u00a0 2025-26.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About National Sports Development Fund<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was established in 1998 under the <\/span><b>Charitable Endowments Act 1890.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Purpose:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> To impart momentum and flexibility to <\/span><b>assisting the cause of sports.<\/b><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Contribution to NSDF:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It is funded by donations from the <\/span><b>public and private sectors<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>Non-Resident Indians<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (NRIs), and <\/span><b>charities or non-profits,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with contributions from the Government.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Objectives of NSDF<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To promote of sports in general and specific sports disciplines and individual sports persons in particular for achieving excellence at the National and of International level<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To <\/span><b>impart special training and coaching<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in relevant sports disciplines to sports persons, coaches and sports specialists.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To <\/span><b>construct and maintain infrastructure<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for promotion of sports and games<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To <\/span><b>supply sports equipment<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to organizations and individuals for promotion of sports and games<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To identify problems and take up <\/span><b>research and development<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> studies for providing support to excellence in sports<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To promote international cooperation, in particular, exchanges which may promote the development of sports<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Management and Administration of NSDF<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Council of NSDF: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Fund is managed by a <\/span><b>Council constituted by the Central Government<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Chairperson of the Council:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Union Ministry of Youth Affairs &amp; Sports<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Members:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It includes senior <\/span><b>Officers of the Department of Sports<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>Chairman &amp; Managing Directors of Private and Public Sector Companies<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \/ Corporations, representatives of Sports Promotion Boards, etc.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Council decides all policy matters relating to the Fund.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Executive Committee: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Day-to-day operations and grant approvals are handled by <\/span><b>a six-member executive committee chaired by the Sports Secretary.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/article\/express-exclusive\/parliament-panels-red-flag-national-sports-development-fund-is-shrinking-use-it-responsibly-10688270\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">IE<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The National Sports Development Fund was established in 1998 under the Charitable Endowments Act 1890.
