style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Psechrus are a group of spiders belonging to the family Psechridae, commonly known for <\/span><b>constructing large horizontal sheet webs in moist forest habitats.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Both species were <\/span><b>discovered in Nagaland<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and named after the local villages where they were first documented \u2014 Ntu and Phenshunyu.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They exhibit several specialized anatomical characteristics associated with life in humid forest ecosystems:\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Elongated and dorsoventrally flattened body structures.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Exceptionally <\/span><b>long anterior legs adapted for environmental sensing.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Fine sensory hair structures<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> aiding vibration detection.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Expanded web-building behavior suited to dense vegetation zones.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Such traits are considered<\/span><b> adaptive advantages for navigating dimly lit forest microhabitats<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> where <\/span><b>tactile and vibrational perception<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> become essential for survival.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The spiders <\/span><b>construct expansive horizontal sheet-like webs <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">that function both as <\/span><b>prey-capture systems <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and<\/span><b> environmental monitoring platforms.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A <\/span><b>male Psechrus himalayanus<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was <\/span><b>observed sharing a web with Psechrus phenshunyu.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This behavior, known as a <\/span><b>heterospecific association,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is <\/span><b>extremely rare among spiders <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">because most spider species exhibit territorial or cannibalistic tendencies.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Other Findings<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The ZSI team also documented the <\/span><b>occurrence of Psechrus himalayanus in Northeast India for the first time.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This represents a major range extension from its previously known Himalayan distribution.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ZSI researchers
