{"id":103791,"date":"2026-05-17T14:49:47","date_gmt":"2026-05-17T09:19:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=103791"},"modified":"2026-05-18T17:02:26","modified_gmt":"2026-05-18T11:32:26","slug":"committee-on-empowerment-of-women","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/committee-on-empowerment-of-women\/","title":{"rendered":"Committee on Empowerment of Women"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Committee on Empowerment of Women Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, the Lok Sabha Speaker has constituted the Committee on Empowerment of Women.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Committee on Empowerment of Women<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was constituted for the <\/span><b>first time on 29th April, 1997<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> during the 11th Lok Sabha.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Composition: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It consists of <\/span><b>30 Members<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">;\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>20 nominated by the Speaker<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from <\/span><b>amongst the Members of<a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/lok-sabha\/\" target=\"_blank\"> Lok Sabha<\/a><\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>10 nominated by the Chairman, <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/rajya-sabha\/\" target=\"_blank\">Rajya Sabha<\/a><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from amongst the Members of the Rajya Sabha.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Term:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The term of the Committee <\/span><b>does not exceed one year<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and it is re-constituted year after year.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Working:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The Members of the Committee are expected to work together for the <\/span><b>empowerment of women<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> cutting across the party affiliations.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Functions of the Committee<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To <\/span><b>consider the reports<\/b> <b>submitted by the <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/national-commission-for-women\/\" target=\"_blank\">National Commission for Women <\/a><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and to report on the measures that should be taken by the Union Government for improving the status\/conditions of women.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To <\/span><b>examine the measures<\/b> <b>taken by the Union Government<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to secure for women equality, status and dignity in all matters;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To examine the measures taken by the Union Government for <\/span><b>comprehensive education and adequate representation of women<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in Legislative bodies\/services and other fields;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0To <\/span><b>report on<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the working of the <\/span><b>welfare programmes for the women<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To report on the action taken by the Union Government and Administrations of the Union Territories on the measures proposed by the Committee; and<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To examine such other matters as may deem fit to the Committee or are specifically <\/span><b>referred to it by<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the House or the <\/span><b>Speaker<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the Rajya Sabha or the <\/span><b>Chairman,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Rajya Sabha.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsonair.gov.in\/lok-sabha-speaker-om-birla-constitutes-committee-on-empowerment-of-women\/#:~:text\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">News On Air<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Committee on Empowerment of Women is a Parliamentary panel formed in 1997 to promote women\u2019s empowerment across party lines.
