{"id":10435,"date":"2023-05-06T08:13:13","date_gmt":"2023-05-06T02:43:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=10435"},"modified":"2025-03-29T20:15:28","modified_gmt":"2025-03-29T14:45:28","slug":"kaladan-multi-modal-transit-transport-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/kaladan-multi-modal-transit-transport-project\/","title":{"rendered":"Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Kaladan Project would <strong>link India and Myanmar via the Bay of Bengal<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It was jointly identified by India and Myanmar to <strong>create a multi-modal mode of transport <\/strong>for the shipment of cargo <strong>from the eastern ports of India to Myanmar<\/strong> as well as <strong>to the North-Eastern part of India through Myanmar.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>It is being <strong>constructed by India under the Grant in Aid Scheme.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Once completed, it will <strong>link Kolkata with the Sittwe seaport in Rakhine <\/strong>state in Myanmar, primarily over the Bay of Bengal \u2013 <strong>covering over 500 km<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The project envisaged <strong>four important stages<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Kolkata to Sittwe waterway;<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Sittwe to Paletwa inland (River Kaladan) waterway<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Paletwa to India-Myanmar border post in Myanmar<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Finally, linking the road to Lawngtlai in Mizoram<\/strong> as part of the project\u2019s last leg;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Benefits<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>The project is expected to contribute to the <strong>economic development of the North-Eastern States<\/strong> of India.<\/li>\n<li>It also <strong>provides a<\/strong> <strong>strategic link to the North-East<\/strong>, thereby <strong>reducing pressure on the Siliguri Corridor.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1)\u00a0What is the SAGAR initiative?<\/h3>\n<p>India\u2019s strategic strategy for the Indian Ocean, titled \u201cSecurity and Growth for All in the Region,&#8221; was announced in 2015.
