{"id":10467,"date":"2026-02-01T12:36:33","date_gmt":"2026-02-01T07:06:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=10467"},"modified":"2026-02-07T07:52:45","modified_gmt":"2026-02-07T02:22:45","slug":"what-is-the-arab-league","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/what-is-the-arab-league\/","title":{"rendered":"What is the Arab League?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Arab League Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, the External affairs minister met the foreign ministers of five Arab League member states and held discussions on ways to develop ties with West Asia and the situation in the region.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Arab League<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Arab League, or League of Arab States, is a voluntary association of countries whose peoples are mainly <\/span><b>Arabic-speaking or where Arabic is an official language.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a regional organization of <\/span><b>Arab states<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the <\/span><b>Middle East and parts of Africa.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Its stated aims are to <\/span><b>strengthen ties among member states<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, coordinate their policies and direct them towards a common good.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Formation: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was <\/span><b>formed in Cairo on 22 March 1945<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with six members: Egypt, Iraq, Transjordan (later renamed Jordan), Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, and Syria, with Yemen joining on 5 May 1945.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Members:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It currently has <\/span><b>22 member states<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Algeria, Bahrain, Comoros, Djibouti, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Palestinian Authority, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Observer Members: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brazil, Eritrea, India, and Venezuela.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Headquarters:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Cairo, Egypt.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Governance of Arab League<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>highest body of the League is the Council,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which is composed of representatives of each state.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The League <\/span><b>makes decisions on a majority basis<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
