{"id":104680,"date":"2026-05-23T13:29:32","date_gmt":"2026-05-23T07:59:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=104680"},"modified":"2026-05-23T13:29:32","modified_gmt":"2026-05-23T07:59:32","slug":"sanghmitra-patrol-vessel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/sanghmitra-patrol-vessel\/","title":{"rendered":"Sanghmitra Patrol Vessel"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Sanghmitra Patrol Vessel Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, Indian Navy\u2019s next generation offshore patrol vessel \u2018Sanghmitra\u2019 launched at GRSE Kolkata.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Sanghmitra Patrol Vessel<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">indigenously built the <\/span><b>Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessel (NGOPV).<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was built at <\/span><b>Garden Reach Shipbuilders &amp; Engineers (GRSE) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in Kolkata.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is part of the Indian Navy\u2019s ambitious programme to build <\/span><b>11 Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> simultaneously at two shipyards.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is <\/span><b>named \u2018Sanghmitra\u2019,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> after the daughter of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/ashoka\/\" target=\"_blank\">King Ashoka<\/a><\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The crest design of the ship <\/span><b>depicts the constellation of Ursa Major<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and a red and white coloured lighthouse.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Features<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The vessel measures around 113 metres in length and 14.6 metres in width, with a <\/span><b>displacement of 3,000 tonnes<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The ship, they added, has an endurance of <\/span><b>8,500 nautical miles<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at a <\/span><b>cruising speed of 14 knots<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and can achieve a maximum speed of 23 knots.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Capabilities:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It has a capability in surveillance and defence in area of interest, search and rescue, <\/span><b>protection of offshore assets, HADR, and anti-piracy missions.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ddindia.co.in\/2026\/05\/indian-navys-next-generation-offshore-patrol-vessel-sanghmitra-launched-at-grse-kolkata\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">DD News<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sanghmitra Patrol Vessel is indigenously built the Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessel (NGOPV).
