The <\/span><b>panel will submit its report within six months from its first meeting.<\/b><\/p>\n<h2><b>Need of Q-SAFE Committee on Quantum Technology<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/quantum-technology\/\" target=\"_blank\">Quantum technology<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is based on principles of quantum mechanics such as superposition and entanglement. It is expected to significantly enhance capabilities in areas like portfolio optimisation, risk assessment, and macroeconomic modelling by solving complex computational problems more efficiently than classical systems.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Despite its potential, quantum technology poses a serious <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/cyber-security\/\" target=\"_blank\">cybersecurity<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> challenge as it can potentially break or weaken existing cryptographic standards. This raises concerns for the security of banking systems, digital payment platforms, and overall financial system stability.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Q-SAFE Committee Role\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Assessment of Opportunities and Risks<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Examine the potential benefits, risks, and challenges arising from the use of quantum technology in banking, payments, and financial services.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Evaluation of Cryptographic Systems<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Assess the financial sector\u2019s existing cryptographic infrastructure through a Cryptography Bill of Materials (CBOM) to identify cryptographic dependencies and vulnerabilities.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Assessment of Crypto Agility<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Evaluate the ability of financial institutions to quickly transition from vulnerable cryptographic algorithms to quantum-safe alternatives without major operational disruption.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Identification of Vulnerable Systems<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Map critical financial systems, digital payment infrastructure, and processes that may be exposed to quantum-enabled cyber threats.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Regulatory and Policy Review<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Examine the adequacy of existing regulatory frameworks for the safe deployment and governance of quantum technologies in the financial sector.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Cross-Country Analysis<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Study international practices, regulatory models, and preparedness strategies adopted by other countries in quantum security.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Industry Preparedness Assessment<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Evaluate the readiness of banks and financial institutions for adopting quantum-safe cryptography, including the availability, scalability, and maturity of vendor solutions.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Roadmap for Quantum Security<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Recommend a comprehensive framework and roadmap for quantum-securing India\u2019s financial ecosystem and strengthening long-term cybersecurity resilience<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Composition of the Committee<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Q-SAFE Committee includes experts from academia, government, and financial institutions.
