{"id":105553,"date":"2026-05-28T15:00:26","date_gmt":"2026-05-28T09:30:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=105553"},"modified":"2026-05-28T16:35:15","modified_gmt":"2026-05-28T11:05:15","slug":"national-health-accounts-nha-estimates-for-india-2022-23","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/national-health-accounts-nha-estimates-for-india-2022-23\/","title":{"rendered":"National Health Accounts (NHA) Estimates for India 2022-23"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>National Health Accounts (NHA) Estimates for India 2022-23 Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Health Ministry recently released the National Health Accounts NHA estimates for India 2022-23. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About National Health Accounts (NHA) Estimates for India 2022-23<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The NHA estimates, <\/span><b>released annually,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> provide a <\/span><b>time-series analysis<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of <\/span><b>actual health expenditure incurred by the government, private sector,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and other sources.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The current estimates for 2022-23 mark the <\/span><b>10th edition<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the series that began in 2013-14.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is<\/span><b> prepared by the National Health Accounts Technical Secretariat (NHATS<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) under the <\/span><b>National Health Systems Resource Centre, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, using the internationally accepted System of Health Accounts (2011) framework.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Highlights<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The report indicates an<\/span><b> increase in government expenditure on healthcare since 2013-14.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The report showed that government health expenditure increased from <\/span><b>Rs 1.30 lakh crore in 2013-14 to Rs 3.85 lakh crore in 2022-23.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The s<\/span><b>hare of government health expenditure in the country\u2019s GDP<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has <\/span><b>risen <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">from <\/span><b>1.15 percent in 2013-14 to 1.43 percent in 2022-23. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the new GDP series with base year 2022-23, the figure stands at 1.48 percent.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Similarly, government health expenditure\u2019s <\/span><b>share in general government expenditure<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has <\/span><b>increased <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">from <\/span><b>3.78 percent to 4.89 percent<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> over the same period.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In <\/span><b>per capita terms<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, government health expenditure has <\/span><b>increased nearly 2.7 times,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from<\/span><b> Rs. 1042 to Rs. 2786 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">between 2013-14 and 2022-23.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>share <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of government health expenditure<\/span><b> in total health expenditure <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">has <\/span><b>increased by almost 15 percentage <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">points, from 28.6 percent in 2013-14 to <\/span><b>43.7 percent in 2022-23.\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The increase in public spending has contributed to a substantial <\/span><b>decline in out-of-pocket expenditure incurred by households on healthcare.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Out-of-pocket expenditure as a share of total health expenditure fell<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from<\/span><b> 64.2 percent<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in 2013-14 to <\/span><b>43.4 percent in 2022-23.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>share of Social Security Expenditure (SSE) in total health expenditure<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8212;
