{"id":105704,"date":"2026-05-29T13:32:08","date_gmt":"2026-05-29T08:02:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=105704"},"modified":"2026-05-29T15:55:32","modified_gmt":"2026-05-29T10:25:32","slug":"duttaphyrnus-dhara","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/duttaphyrnus-dhara\/","title":{"rendered":"Duttaphyrnus dhara"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Duttaphyrnus dhara Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, a new species of toad recorded in Meghalaya\u2019s East Khasi Hills district has been named as Duttaphyrnus dhara.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Duttaphyrnus dhara<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>new toad species<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> found in <\/span><b>Meghalaya.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Habitat: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It prefers <\/span><b>forest-edge<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and semi-natural habitats.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is clearly different from its closest known relatives, <\/span><b>Duttaphrynus stuarti and Duttaphrynus chandai.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Features<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>small, forest-associated toad<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with adult males measuring only about 40-41.8 mm in snout-vent length.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has a compact body, wider head and absence of prominent cranial ridges.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has small but distinct tympanum, <\/span><b>moderate toe webbing<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and a rough dorsum covered with numerous pointed keratinised warts.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has a <\/span><b>brown body with irregular black patches<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a narrow pale mid-dorsal line, dark fingers and toes, and a creamy white underside marked with black blotches.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/sci-tech\/energy-and-environment\/new-toad-species-recorded-in-meghalaya-named-after-khasi-womens-attire\/article71027776.ece\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">TH<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Duttaphyrnus dhara is a new toad species found in Meghalaya.
