{"id":105859,"date":"2026-05-30T15:00:36","date_gmt":"2026-05-30T09:30:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=105859"},"modified":"2026-05-30T15:00:36","modified_gmt":"2026-05-30T09:30:36","slug":"skycast-system","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/skycast-system\/","title":{"rendered":"SkyCast System"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>SkyCast System Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, the Union Minister of Earth Sciences inaugurated India&#8217;s first SkyCast system at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About SkyCast System<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is an advanced <\/span><b>integrated aviation weather monitoring system.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is <\/span><b>developed under &#8220;Mission Mausam&#8221;.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The scientific foundation of SkyCast comes from the <\/span><b>Winter Fog Experiment<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (WiFEX), jointly initiated <\/span><b>by IITM and IMD under the Ministry of Earth Sciences<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at IGI Airport in 2015.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>India becomes 19th<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the world to deploy advanced integrated aviation weather monitoring systems.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Key Features of SkyCast System<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The system integrates state-of-the-art atmospheric remote sensing technologies which includes<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Radar Wind Profiler<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: It forms <\/span><b>the core of the system<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and measures <\/span><b>wind speed, wind direction, turbulence, vertical velocity<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and boundary-layer dynamics.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Ground-based Fog Aerosol Spectrometer (GFAS):<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It is an advanced fog monitoring instrument which provides <\/span><b>detailed information on fog droplets<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, aerosols and aerosol-fog interactions.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>CL61 Lidar-based Ceilometer:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It monitors the <\/span><b>vertical structure of fog<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>visibility conditions in real time,<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It improves understanding <\/span><b>of fog formation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and atmospheric behaviour affecting aviation operations.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It brings together real-time measurements of fog, aerosols, turbulence, moisture, visibility and atmospheric conditions into a <\/span><b>single advanced aviation weather intelligence framework.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It can <\/span><b>assess atmospheric conditions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from the <\/span><b>surface up to nearly 10 km altitude<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>generate aviation meteorological parameters<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (wind shear, turbulence, fog formation indicators and icing potential).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Significance of SkyCast System<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It will provide real-time weather intelligence to Pilots, reducing flight delays, diversions and cancellations caused by fog and turbulence.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It <\/span><b>will support advanced forecasting models,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> artificial intelligence-enabled decision support systems, urban weather forecasting, pollution management, transport advisories and disaster preparedness initiatives.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source:<\/b> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pib.gov.in\/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=2266638&amp;reg=3&amp;lang=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">PIB<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SkyCast System is an advanced integrated aviation weather monitoring system.
