In June specifically, Delhi records a storm frequency of 2.5 days \u2014 the highest in the country for that month.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/aravalli-range-explained\/\" target=\"_blank\"><b>Aravallis degrade<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the impact of these storms is intensifying.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>The Aravalli Range \u2014 India&#8217;s Natural Dust Shield<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Aravalli range stands physically between the <\/span><b>Thar Desert and the Indo-Gangetic plains<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 one of the world&#8217;s most densely populated regions.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When dust-laden winds blow in from the Middle East and the Thar Desert during the pre-monsoon months of April to June, they run into the Aravallis, lose speed, and drop their load of sand \u2014 preventing it from reaching Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This <\/span><b>natural filtering process<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is visually evidenced by &#8220;<\/span><b>obstacle dunes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8221; \u2014 large sand deposits found on the western slopes of the Aravallis, directly exposed to hot winds from the west.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The vegetation growing on these dunes resembles desert flora.
