Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India, invites applications for the Prime Minister Research Chair (PMRC) Scheme 2026.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Prime Minister Research Chair Scheme<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>flagship national initiative<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> aimed to <\/span><b>attract accomplished Indian origin researchers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and professionals from leading global institutions and industries with outstanding achievements in research, innovation, and technology.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It seeks to <\/span><b>connect global Indian talent<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with <\/span><b>premier government higher education<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> institutions, national laboratories and research centres across the country.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Features of Prime Minister Research Chair Scheme<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It will focus on <\/span><b>13 priority sectors<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> namely;<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Artificial intelligence, Quantum computing, Semiconductors, Energy and climate change, cybersecurity, Healthcare and medical technology, Biotechnology, Advanced materials, space and defence, Next-generation communications, Manufacturing, Agriculture and food technologies, Blue economy, and atomic energy.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is anchored on <\/span><b>three core pillars:<\/b> <b>Lead Institutions, Host Institutions, and PMRC Fellows<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to ensure research projects are aligned with national priorities and deliver measurable outcomes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Selection Process:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Participating institutions and fellows will be selected through a rigorous process overseen by an <\/span><b>Empowered Committee chaired by the Principal Scientific Advisor<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to the Government of India.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PMRC Fellows will receive <\/span><b>fellowship and research grant support<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>access to laboratories<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and research infrastructure and opportunities to work with leading government institutions in India.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Host Institutions under the it\u00a0 will benefit through <\/span><b>international academic collaborations, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">engagement with globally accomplished researchers and professionals, and expanded research and innovation activities in priority sectors.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It offers <\/span><b>three categories of <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">engagement namely <\/span><b>Young Research Fellows<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for early career researchers, <\/span><b>Senior Research Fellows<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for experienced researchers, and <\/span><b>Research Chairs<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for globally accomplished research leaders.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Eligible Fellows: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It includes accomplished <\/span><b>Indian origin researchers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, scientists, and professionals, including Indian Nationals working abroad, <\/span><b>OCI cardholders, and Persons of Indian Origin.<\/b><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Host Institutions<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Government Higher Educational Institutions ranked among the <\/span><b>Top 100 in NIRF Overall or Engineering categories<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, or <\/span><b>Top 50 in the <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/national-institutional-ranking-framework\/\" target=\"_blank\">NIRF<\/a> Research category<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">National laboratories and research institutions under agencies such as Department of Science and Technology (DST), Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), and Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), among others.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Lead
