{"id":106548,"date":"2026-06-03T14:57:14","date_gmt":"2026-06-03T09:27:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=106548"},"modified":"2026-06-03T14:57:14","modified_gmt":"2026-06-03T09:27:14","slug":"karnala-fort","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/karnala-fort\/","title":{"rendered":"Karnala Fort"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Karnala Fort Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In yet another dubious private forest land diversion, over 60 hectares has been recently deforested off the Karnala Fort under Bhadbhuvan village, Uran, without prior permission of the Union govt. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Karnala Fort<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Karnala Fort, also called <\/span><b>Funnel Hill,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a historic <\/span><b>hill fort<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> located in Raigad District in <\/span><b>Maharashtra<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Standing at 1,500 feet <\/span><b>inside the Karnala Bird Sanctuary,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> it offers stunning <\/span><b>views of the Sahyadris.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The fort <\/span><b>overlooks <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the <\/span><b>historic Bor Pass<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a <\/span><b>key trade route connecting Konkan to Maharashtra\u2019s interior.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Karnala Fort <\/b><b>History<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The fort was likely <\/span><b>constructed before 1400<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, under the <\/span><b>Devagiri Yadavs (1248\u20131318) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and the <\/span><b>Tughlaq rulers (1318\u20131347)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">; <\/span><b>Karnala <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was the <\/span><b>capital of the north Konkan districts of their respective empires.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Its <\/span><b>strategic location<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> made it a coveted possession for various rulers over the centuries.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Controlled at various times<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by the <\/span><b>Yadavas, Tughlaqs, Gujarat Sultanate, Nizam Shahis of Ahmednagar, Portuguese, Marathas, Mughals, Peshwas, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and finally the <\/span><b>British East India Company.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The fort&#8217;s significance grew during its role in Maratha history, when it became a <\/span><b>crucial outpost for Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in his quest to establish a Maratha empire.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Karnala Fort <\/b><b>Features<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It actually consists of <\/span><b>two forts, one at a higher level <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and the <\/span><b>other lower.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>At the centre of the higher level<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a <\/span><b>125-feet-high basalt pillar<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
