According to the Marine Products Export Development Authority, India exported 19.72 lakh metric tonnes (MT) of marine products worth \u20b973,890 crore (USD 8.46 billion), reflecting the growing global competitiveness of the country\u2019s marine sector.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Significance of the Fisheries Sector in India<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The fisheries sector is an important pillar of India\u2019s agricultural and maritime economy.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India is the <\/span><b>3rd largest fish-producing country<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the world.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>India\u2019s Seafood Export Performance in FY 2025-26<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Despite global economic uncertainties, supply-chain disruptions and fluctuating demand in major markets, India\u2019s seafood sector demonstrated remarkable resilience and emerged as one of the strongest contributors to agricultural and marine exports.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Total seafood exports<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> reached 19,72,018 MT, the <\/span><b><i>highest ever recorded by India.<\/i><\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Export earnings<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> touched \u20b973,890.46 crore (USD 8.46 billion), marking a new milestone for the sector.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Growth was driven by rising aquaculture production, diversification of export products, improved quality standards and expansion into international markets.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Major Exported Seafood Products<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India\u2019s seafood export basket continues to be dominated by shrimp, although other marine products also recorded encouraging growth.\u00a0 <\/span><b>Frozen shrimp remained India\u2019s most valuable seafood export.<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Exports stood at 7,92,647 MT.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Export earnings reached \u20b949,037.93 crore (USD 5.62 billion).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It accounted for 40.19% of export quantity and 66.52% of total export earnings.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shrimp exports registered growth of 13.16% in rupee terms and 8.64% in dollar terms.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Both <\/span><b>Vannamei shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>Black Tiger shrimp <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">recorded growth in volume and value.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While shrimp continues to dominate, other seafood categories also registered strong growth.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Frozen fish<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> emerged as the second-largest export category, earning USD 643.7 million.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Dried seafood<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> became the third-largest export segment, earning USD 577.4 million and registering an impressive growth of over 78%.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Frozen squid<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> exports crossed 1 lakh MT and generated more than USD 513 million.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Frozen cuttlefish<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> exports recorded strong growth in both quantity and value.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Chilled and live seafood<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> products also registered positive growth, indicating increasing diversification of India\u2019s marine export basket.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Major Export Destinations<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India\u2019s seafood exports are spread across several major international markets.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>United States:\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Remained the <\/span><b>largest destination in terms of export value.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Imported seafood worth USD 2.33 billion.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Frozen shrimp accounted for over 93% of India\u2019s seafood exports to the US.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, exports to the US declined in both volume and value during the year.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>China:\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Emerged as the <\/span><b>largest destination by volume<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Imported approximately 4.9 lakh MT of Indian
