


{"id":106700,"date":"2026-06-04T12:38:15","date_gmt":"2026-06-04T07:08:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=106700"},"modified":"2026-06-04T12:38:15","modified_gmt":"2026-06-04T07:08:15","slug":"crotalaria-phulei","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/crotalaria-phulei\/","title":{"rendered":"Crotalaria phulei"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Crotalaria phulei Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Indian botanists recently identified a previously unknown species of flowering plant named Crotalaria phulei from forests of Nagpur.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Crotalaria phulei<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a new species of <\/span><b>flowering plant.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was discovered in the <\/span><b>Khairi-Umred forest<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> near <\/span><b>Nagpur<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>Maharashtra<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was named in <\/span><b>honour of Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>India&#8217;s first woman teacher <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and one of India&#8217;s most influential <\/span><b>social reformers.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Belonging to the Fabaceae family, Crotalaria phulei is an <\/span><b>undershrub <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">that grows up to 1.5 metres in height.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Young branches<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are<\/span><b> covered with silvery silky hair,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> while the plant bears <\/span><b>large bright yellow flowers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> measuring 3.4 to 3.5 centimetres.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It <\/span><b>produces pods containing seeds<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of a distinctive mottled <\/span><b>creamy-olive colour,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which researchers identified as unique within the genus.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The species flowers between November and January and fruits between December and January.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The species most closely <\/span><b>resembles Crotalaria juncea, commonly known as sunhemp, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and<\/span><b> Crotalaria shrirangiana from the <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/western-ghats\/\" target=\"_blank\">Western Ghats<\/a><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of Maharashtra.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The species has been assigned a preliminary conservation status of <\/span><b>Data Deficient<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> under the <\/span><b>IUCN criteria.\u00a0 <\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source<\/b><strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/city\/nagpur\/new-botanical-find-in-umred-named-after-savitribai-phule\/articleshow\/131470889.cms\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">TOI<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Crotalaria phulei is a new species of flowering plant discovered in the Khairi-Umred forest near Nagpur, Maharashtra.
