text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">BRO is the<\/span><b> government of India\u2019s premier border infrastructure agency.\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Establishment<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: It was formed on 7 May <\/span><b>1960 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to secure India\u2019s borders and develop infrastructure in remote areas of the north and northeastern states of the country.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Since 2015\u201316,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> BRO has been<\/span><b> functioning fully under the Ministry of Defence. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Earlier, it was partially under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Motto: Shramena Sarvam Sadhyam<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (everything is achievable through hard work).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It <\/span><b>develops and maintains road networks<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in<\/span><b> India\u2019s border areas <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and f<\/span><b>riendly neighboring countries.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This includes infrastructure operations in <\/span><b>19 states and three union territories<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (including Andaman and Nicobar Islands) and neighboring countries such as <\/span><b>Afghanistan, Bhutan, Myanmar, Tajikistan, and Sri Lanka.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Over the years, the organisation has <\/span><b>diversified into the construction of steel bridges, airfields, townships, tunneling works,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>hydroelectric projects.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Beyond building roads, the BRO is<\/span><b> often India\u2019s first line of defence against disasters. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From the Himalayas to the North East and the Andaman &amp; Nicobar Islands, its teams <\/span><b>restore lifelines when calamity strikes.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has an <\/span><b>operational role during national emergencies <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and the outbreak of<\/span><b> hostilities,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> when it provides <\/span><b>direct support to the Army in the maintenance of roads<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the forward zones and executes other functions specified by the government.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It also provides the workforce for the <\/span><b>rehabilitation of certain forward airfields of the Indian Air Force<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> during operations.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">BRO is also included in the<\/span><b> Order of Battle of the Armed Forces<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, ensuring their support at any time.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In order to ensure coordination and expeditious execution of projects, the Government of India set up the<\/span><b> Border Roads Development Board (BRDB) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with the <\/span><b>Prime Minister as Chairman <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of the Board and the <\/span><b>Defence Minister <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">as <\/span><b>Deputy Chairman.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>executive head<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the BRO is the <\/span><b>Director General of Border Roads (DGBR),<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> who holds the rank of Lieutenant General.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The BRO is <\/span><b>staffed by officers and troops drawn from the Indian Army\u2019s Corps of Engineers, Electrical and Mechanical Engineers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Army Service Corps, Military Police, and <\/span><b>army personnel on extra-regimental employment.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Engineering Service and personnel from the General Reserve Engineer Force (GREF) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">form the<\/span><b> parent cadr<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">e of the Border Roads Organisation.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;
