{"id":10729,"date":"2025-11-16T14:33:55","date_gmt":"2025-11-16T09:03:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=10729"},"modified":"2025-11-18T13:46:30","modified_gmt":"2025-11-18T08:16:30","slug":"territorial-army","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/territorial-army\/","title":{"rendered":"Territorial Army"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Territorial Army Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Army is planning to induct women soldiers in its Territorial Army (TA) battalions.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Territorial Army<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Indian Territorial Army (TA) is a <\/span><b>part-time voluntary military force<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that supports and augments the regular Indian Army.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>second line of defence<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> after the regular Indian Army; it is not a profession, occupation or a source of employment.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is only meant for those people who are <\/span><b>already in mainstay civilian professions;<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> gainful employment or self-employment in a civil profession is a prerequisite for joining the TA.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Motto:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Savdhani Va Shoorta (Vigilance and Valour).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>History of<\/b> <b>Territorial Army<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was raised by <\/span><b>the Britishers in 1920<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> through <\/span><b>Indian Territorial Act of 1920<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">it was organized into two wings namely <\/span><b>\u2013 \u2018The Auxiliary Force\u2019<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for Europeans &amp; Anglo-Indians and <\/span><b>\u2018The Indian Territorial Force\u2019<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for Indian Volunteers.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After Independence <\/span><b>Territorial Army Act was passed in 1948<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the Territorial Army was formally inaugurated by the first Indian Governor General <\/span><b>Shri C Rajagopalachari<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on 09 Oct 1949.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Eligibility to Join Territorial Army<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Nationality:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Citizens of India. (Men &amp; Women).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Age:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> 18 to 42 years<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Educational Qualifications:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Graduate from any recognized university<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Employment:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Gainfully Employed<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Serving member of the Regular Army\/ Navy\/ Air Force\/ Police\/ GREF\/ Para Military and like forces are not eligible<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Role of Territorial Army<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It includes \u201c<\/span><b>relieving the Regular Army from static duties\u201d,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> while also providing assistance to civil authorities in times of natural calamities and tragedies.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They also <\/span><b>help civil administration<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with providing essential services in areas where state machinery is stretched or there are security threats.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Volunteers of the TA usually serve in <\/span><b>uniform for a few days every year,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> so that they can bear arms for national defence in times of dire need or national emergencies.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/article\/india\/another-glass-ceiling-breaks-women-soldiers-soon-in-territorial-army-10368326\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">IE<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Indian Territorial Army is a part-time voluntary force supporting the regular Army.
