


{"id":107355,"date":"2026-06-09T13:15:17","date_gmt":"2026-06-09T07:45:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=107355"},"modified":"2026-06-09T13:15:17","modified_gmt":"2026-06-09T07:45:17","slug":"aurora-borealis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/aurora-borealis\/","title":{"rendered":"Aurora Borealis"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Aurora Borealis Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, \u2018Aurora Borealis\u2019, more popularly called \u2018northern lights\u2019 was expected to be visible in India.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Aurora Borealis<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is <\/span><b>popularly called \u2018northern lights\u2019<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The phenomenon is called \u2018northern lights\u2019 because <\/span><b>they are concentrated around the North Pole <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">or the magnetic pole in Earth\u2019s northern hemisphere.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They are frequently seen in Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, Canada, Alaska, and Greenland.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Aurora Borealis\u2019 is the scientific name for these lights in the night sky in <\/span><b>the northern hemisphere.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The ones in the <\/span><b>southern hemisphere<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are called \u2018<\/span><b>Aurora Australis\u2019 or \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/what-are-northern-and-southern-lights\/\" target=\"_blank\">southern lights.<\/a>\u2019<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Formation of Auroras<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is due to <\/span><b>activity on the surface of the Sun.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The star continuously releases a <\/span><b>stream of charged particles<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, mainly electrons and protons, and magnetic fields called the solar wind.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As the <\/span><b>solar wind approaches the Earth,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> it is <\/span><b>deflected by the planet\u2019s magnetic field<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which acts like a protective shield.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, some of the charged particles are trapped in the magnetic field and they travel down the magnetic field lines at the north and south poles into the upper atmosphere of the Earth.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These <\/span><b>particles then interact with different gases present<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> there, resulting in tiny flashes that light up the night sky.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When solar wind particles collide with oxygen, a green colour light is produced.
