


{"id":107363,"date":"2026-06-09T13:27:35","date_gmt":"2026-06-09T07:57:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=107363"},"modified":"2026-06-09T13:27:35","modified_gmt":"2026-06-09T07:57:35","slug":"maharaja-chhatrasal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/maharaja-chhatrasal\/","title":{"rendered":"Maharaja Chhatrasal"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Maharaja Chhatrasal Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Underway at the Madhya Pradesh Tribal Museum at Shyamal Hills in Bhopal, the second day of Mahua Festival carried a theme steeped in local legend: the life of Maharaja Chhatrasal.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Maharaja Chhatrasal<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maharaja Chhatrasal (4 May <\/span><b>1649 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 19 December <\/span><b>1731<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) was a <\/span><b>medieval Indian warrior <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">who <\/span><b>fought against the Mughal Emperor <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/aurangzeb-and-fall-of-mughals\/\" target=\"_blank\">Aurangzeb<\/a><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>established his own kingdom <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in <\/span><b>Bundelkhand<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He belonged to th<\/span><b>e Bundela clan of Rajputs<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, born under Mughal supremacy but died as an independent king of an independent kingdom.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>His father <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">had <\/span><b>raised the banner for freedom<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a generation earlier but was <\/span><b>killed in battle with the Mughals <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">after killing the favourite of the emperor, Abu Fazl.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maharaja Chhatrasal <\/span><b>started a revolt at the age of 22 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><b>formed a kingdom <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of his own<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">at the age of 26 <\/span><b>against Mughal dominance.\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During the first ten years of his revolt, he <\/span><b>conquered <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a large tract of <\/span><b>land between Chitrakoot and Panna on the east and Gwalior on the west.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">His victory march continued as far as Malwa, Punjab, Rajasthan, <\/span><b>establishing the Bundela kingdom.\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Some of the Mughal generals who were defeated by him<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> were <\/span><b>Rohilla Khan, Kaliq, Munawwar Khan<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Sadruddin, Sheikh Anwar, Sayyid Latif, Bahlol Khan and Abdus Ahmed.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Alliance with the Marathas:<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In <\/span><b>1729<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Chhatrasal <\/span><b>sought help from Peshwa Baji Rao I against the Mughal commander Muhammad Khan Bangash.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Baji Rao I defeated Bangash <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and helped Chhatrasal retain his kingdom.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In gratitude,<\/span><b> Chhatrasal granted a portion of his territory to the Maratha<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">s, strengthening Maratha influence in central India.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chhatrasal<\/span><b> also gave his daughter Mastani as a bride to Baji Rao I.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He was not only a great warrior but an <\/span><b>able administrator too;<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> his governance ensured his kingdom would always have a full treasury.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Highly respected for his sense of honour and love for his people, he was <\/span><b>given the title of &#8216;Maharaja&#8217;
