


{"id":10749,"date":"2026-06-09T13:06:27","date_gmt":"2026-06-09T07:36:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=10749"},"modified":"2026-06-09T15:22:36","modified_gmt":"2026-06-09T09:52:36","slug":"what-are-gallantry-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/what-are-gallantry-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"Gallantry Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Gallantry Awards Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, the President of India conferred Gallantry Awards to the personnel of the Armed Forces, Central Armed Police Forces, and State and Union Territory Police during the Defence Investiture Ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhawan.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Gallantry Awards<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It recognises acts of <\/span><b>exceptional bravery, courage<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and devotion to duty by the <\/span><b>Armed Forces and security personnel.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Ministry:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The <\/span><b>Ministry of Defence seeks<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> recommendations twice annually from the Armed Forces and the <\/span><b>Ministry of Home Affairs<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for Gallantry Awards in India.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These gallantry <\/span><b>awards are announced twice in a year<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; first on the occasion of the Republic Day and then on the occasion of the Independence Day.<\/span><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>History of Gallantry Awards<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Three gallantry awards, namely <\/span><b>Param Vir Chakra, Maha Vir Chakra and Vir Chakra<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, were instituted by the Government of India on <\/span><b>26th January, 1950.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thereafter, the other three gallantry awards, i.e. the Ashoka Chakra Class-I, the Ashoka Chakra Class-II and the Ashoka Chakra Class-III were instituted in 1952.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These were later renamed in January 1967 as <\/span><b>Ashoka Chakra, Kirti Chakra, and Shaurya Chakra, respectively.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Order of precedence:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The order of precedence of these awards is <\/span><b>the Param Vir Chakra<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the Ashoka Chakra, the Mahavir Chakra, the Kirti Chakra, the Vir Chakra and the <\/span><b>Shaurya Chakra.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These awards are <\/span><b>divided into two main categories<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> based on whether the act of bravery occurs in the presence of the enemy or in peacetime situations.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Wartime Gallantry Awards:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Param Vir Chakra, Maha Vir Chakra, and Vir Chakra<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Peacetime Gallantry Awards:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Ashoka Chakra, Kirti Chakra, and Shaurya Chakra are awarded for courageous actions during peacetime.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/newsonair.gov.in\/president-droupadi-murmu-confers-gallantry-awards\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">News On Air<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Gallantry Awards recognises acts of exceptional bravery, courage and devotion to duty by the Armed Forces and security personnel.
