first on the occasion of the <strong>Republic Day<\/strong> <strong>and<\/strong> then on the occasion of the <strong>Independence Day.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Background<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Three gallantry awards,<\/strong> namely <strong>Param Vir Chakra<\/strong>, <strong>Maha Vir Chakra<\/strong> <strong>and Vir Chakra,<\/strong> <strong>were instituted<\/strong> by the Government of India <strong>on 26th January, 1950.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Thereafter, <strong>the other three<\/strong> gallantry awards, i.e. the <strong>Ashoka Chakra<\/strong> <strong>Class-I<\/strong>, the <strong>Ashoka Chakra Class-II<\/strong> and the <strong>Ashoka Chakra Class-III<\/strong> were <strong>instituted in 1952. <\/strong>These awards were<strong> renamed<\/strong> <strong>Ashoka Chakra, Kirti Chakra<\/strong> and <strong>Shaurya Chakra<\/strong>, respectively, <strong>in 1967<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Order of precedence<\/strong>: The order of precedence of these awards is the <strong>Param Vir Chakra<\/strong>, the <strong>Ashoka Chakra<\/strong>, the <strong>Mahavir Chakra<\/strong>, the <strong>Kirti Chakra<\/strong>, the <strong>Vir Chakra<\/strong> and the <strong>Shaurya Chakra<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>All the gallantry awards <strong>may be awarded posthumously.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Persons recommended <\/strong>for the award <strong>shall not be involved in any adverse report<\/strong> or should not have been conveyed any displeasure or censure <strong>or given any punishment in a court martial<\/strong> proceedings or through administrative action.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>The Ashoka Chakra, The Kirti Chakra &amp;
