event, including policymakers, industry leaders, startups, researchers, development partners, financial institutions, and representatives from South Asian Improved Nutrition and Growth) is a <\/span><b>regional multi-stakeholder platform<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> led by the World Bank Group to promote resilient, inclusive, and nutrition-focused food systems in South Asia.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It brings together governments, investors, development partners, research institutions, private-sector stakeholders, and innovators to <\/span><b>address challenges related to agriculture, nutrition, food processing, and <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/food-security-in-india\/\" target=\"_blank\">food security<\/a>.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The platform<\/span><b> focuses on policy reforms, investment mobilization, and scaling of innovative solutions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to strengthen the World Bank Group\u2019s AgriConnect Initiative,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which aims to connect 300 million farmers to markets by 2030 through infrastructure development, policy reforms, and private capital mobilization.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The platform <\/span><b>seeks to transform food systems beyond primary agricultural production<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by promoting processing, logistics, storage, and value-chain development.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Its ultimate <\/span><b>objective<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is to improve nutrition outcomes, strengthen food security, enhance farmer incomes, generate employment opportunities, and support sustainable economic growth across South Asia.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>SAPLING Dialogue 2026 Key Highlights<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The discussions emphasized that the next phase of agricultural transformation in South Asia must move beyond increasing farm production and focus on food processing, value addition, logistics, storage, and market linkages.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Participants highlighted food processing as a key instrument for generating employment, enhancing farmer incomes, reducing poverty, strengthening food security, and promoting sustainable economic growth.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A major focus of the dialogue was addressing <\/span><b>post-harvest losses<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which <\/span><b>account for over 30% of food production in South Asia<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, through improved cold-chain infrastructure, storage facilities, smart packaging, and integrated supply chains.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The dialogue promoted a<\/span><b> \u201cFarm to Factory\u201d approach<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to ensure efficient movement of agricultural produce from farms to processing units, thereby reducing wastage and improving value realization for farmers.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Discussions also focused on <\/span><b>integrating small and informal food processing enterprises into formal value chains<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to improve their access to markets, finance, technology, and quality standards.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Technology and innovation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> emerged as important themes, with emphasis on <\/span><b>digital traceability, smart processing systems, and modern food-processing technologies<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to improve efficiency and competitiveness.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Participants <\/span><b>highlighted the critical role of MSMEs, startups, women entrepreneurs, and rural enterprises<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in expanding the food processing sector and creating inclusive growth.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The dialogue <\/span><b>underscored the importance of regional cooperation among South <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/asian-countries\/\" target=\"_blank\">Asian countries<\/a><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in areas such as food safety standards, investment promotion, technology transfer, and value-chain integration.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A key outcome of the event was the release of the <\/span><b>report \u201cAssessment of the Level of Food Processing in India,\u201d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which noted that <\/span><b>India\u2019s food processing level increased from around 10% in 2016 to nearly 17% in 2023.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The report <\/span><b>identified significant untapped potential for value addition in fruits, vegetables, dairy products, and other perishable commodities<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, highlighting opportunities to increase farmer incomes and boost exports.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The dialogue concluded with a <\/span><b>call for deeper collaboration between MoFPI and the World Bank Group <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and the preparation of
