It is the <\/span><b>first air station in the Nicobar Islands.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the<\/span><b> southernmost air station<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the <\/span><b>Indian Armed Forces.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is under the <\/span><b>joint-services Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of the<\/span><b> Indian Armed Forces.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It significantly enhances India\u2019s capacity for <\/span><b>intelligence gathering, surveillance, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and reconnaissance across <\/span><b>vast areas of the Indian Ocean.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It <\/span><b>overlooks <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the<\/span><b> Strait of Malacca<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as well as the <\/span><b>Six Degree Channel between Great Nicobar and the Indonesian island of Sumatra.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is used as a base for the Indian <\/span><b>Navy&#8217;s Dornier Do 228 reconnaissance aircraft.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It can also operate the Indian <\/span><b>Air Force&#8217;s C-130J Super Hercules transport aircraft.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Its<\/span><b> runway measures 3,500 feet (1,100 m)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and will be progressively lengthened to enable all heavy aircraft to operate from the base. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>News<\/b><strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiatoday.in\/india\/story\/great-nicobar-airport-project-government-drops-ins-baaz-expansion-for-new-greenfield-airport-2923909-2026-06-09\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">IT<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>INS Baaz is an Indian naval air station located near Campbell Bay, on Great Nicobar Island in the Andaman &#038; Nicobar Islands.
