The convention promotes <\/span><b>law enforcement cooperation, justice, and stronger legal systems<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to ensure safety and security worldwide.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Background of the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC)<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is the <\/span><b>main international legal framework<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to fight <\/span><b>organized crime that operates across countries<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Criminal networks deal in illegal goods and services such as <\/span><b>drugs, firearms, wildlife, natural resources, organs, and even waste<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, spreading their operations worldwide.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This type of crime does not just involve financial loss, it also <\/span><b>destroys lives, damages communities, and weakens economies<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. For example, huge amounts of money are lost every year through illegal financial activities, which could otherwise be used for development and improving people\u2019s lives.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To address this growing global threat, the <\/span><b>United Nations declared 15 November as the International Day for the Prevention of and Fight against All Forms of Transnational Organized Crime<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, first observed in 2024.
