Tamraparni River <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">or <\/span><b>Porunai River,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a rare <\/span><b>perennial river <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in southern India flowing entirely through the <\/span><b>Tamil Nadu <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">state.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The river <\/span><b>contains <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a small amount of <\/span><b>copper<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which gives the river water a <\/span><b>distinct reddish tinge.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>In Tamil, copper is called Thamiram<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and hence the river is named Thamirabarani.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Porunai is its classical name in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/sangam-literature\/\" target=\"_blank\"><b>Sangam literature<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, where it has extensive literary
