{"id":10825,"date":"2023-05-11T08:38:11","date_gmt":"2023-05-11T03:08:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=10825"},"modified":"2025-03-29T22:54:24","modified_gmt":"2025-03-29T17:24:24","slug":"chheligada-irrigation-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/chheligada-irrigation-project\/","title":{"rendered":"Chheligada Irrigation Project"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Chheligada Irrigation Project:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a <strong>multipurpose medium project<\/strong> being undertaken <strong>across river Badjhore<\/strong>, a <strong>tributary of river Vansadhara<\/strong> near the <strong>village Chheligada<\/strong> in the <strong>Gajapati District of Odisha.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The Project envisages the <strong>construction of a 250m long &amp; 30m high dam<\/strong> across the river Badjhore <strong>with a central spillway.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>After this Project, <strong>5201 hectares metres water can be preserved<\/strong> and <strong>water can be supplied for irrigation of 5760 hectares of land<\/strong> in Ganjam and 500 hectares of land in Gajapati districts.<\/li>\n<li>This Project will also <strong>provide drinking water to Brahampur City<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Additionally, <strong>36 MW of electricity can be produced<\/strong> through a mini hydel project in three places Shiali Loti, Kankata and Dekili in the Gajapati district.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>salient features<\/strong> of the Project are:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>90m long<\/strong> centrally located <strong>Ogee-type gated Spillway<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li><strong>1.13 km long tunnel<\/strong> to <strong>connect Chheligada reservoir with Ghodahada<\/strong> river;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Canal system<\/strong> directly from the dam to irrigate in the Gajapati district;<\/li>\n<li>Laying of the <strong>pipeline for drinking water supply to Berhampur<\/strong> (Distt. Ganjam);<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1)\u00a0Which is the major tributary of the Vamsadhara river?<\/h3>\n<p>Vamsadhara River is a significant east flowing river between Godavari and Mahanadi which meanders between north-eastern Andhra Pradesh and southern Odisha. One of the major tributaries of Vamsadhara River is Mahendratanaya which originates in Gajapati district of Odisha.
