It represents the largest active continental rift system in the world, extending for nearly <\/span><b>3,500 kilometers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from the <\/span><b>Red Sea in northeastern Africa to Mozambique in southeastern Africa<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. This vast tectonic zone is characterized by deep valleys, steep escarpments, active volcanoes, earthquakes, and large freshwater lakes.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>East African Rift Valley<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The East African Rift Valley is a massive geological depression formed due to the gradual stretching and thinning of the Earth&#8217;s continental crust. It marks a <\/span><b>divergent plate boundary<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> where the <\/span><b>Somali Plate<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is moving away from the <\/span><b>Nubian Plate<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (part of the African Plate). The East African Rift is considered one of the best natural laboratories for studying continental breakup and plate tectonics.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>East African Rift Valley Location<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>East African Rift Valley<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is located in the eastern part of Africa and extends for about <\/span><b>3,500 kilometers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from the <\/span><b>Red Sea region in northeastern Africa to Mozambique in southeastern Africa<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. and thinning of the Earth&#8217;s continental crust due to tectonic plate divergence and mantle upwelling over millions of years.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"
