{"id":108649,"date":"2026-06-18T12:49:55","date_gmt":"2026-06-18T07:19:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=108649"},"modified":"2026-06-18T13:29:00","modified_gmt":"2026-06-18T07:59:00","slug":"kishau-dam-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/kishau-dam-project\/","title":{"rendered":"Kishau Dam Project"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Kishau Dam Project Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The eight-year deadlock on the construction of Kishau Dam ended recently after the Centre and beneficiary states agreed to cover the \u20b92,000 crore power component cost for the project.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Kishau Dam Project<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a<\/span><b> multipurpose dam project<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> proposed to be built on the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/tons-river\/\" target=\"_blank\"><b>Tons river <\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(a major <\/span><b>tributary of river Yamuna<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) along the <\/span><b>Uttarakhand-Himachal Pradesh border.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Beneficiary States: Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The project envisages construction of a 2<\/span><b>36 m high concrete dam,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> thus creating an installed capacity of 4 x 165 MW<\/span><b> (660 MW) of hydroelectric power,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> create an<\/span><b> irrigation potential<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of 97,000 hectares, and <\/span><b>supply <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">517 million cubic metres (MCM) <\/span><b>water annually to Delhi, Rajasthan and Haryana.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It will play a crucial role in <\/span><b>enhancing the flow of fresh water into the Yamuna, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">particularly during lean seasons.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the construction of this project, a <\/span><b>joint venture of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh Government, Kishau Corporation Limited<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has been formed in the year 2017.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Recent Consensus:<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As part of the project,<\/span><b> 90 percent of the water component <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">will be <\/span><b>funded by the Centre as central assistance<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the remaining <\/span><b>10 percent<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will be<\/span><b> borne by the six beneficiary states.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Himachal Pradesh\u2019s share of water<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will be<\/span><b> allocated to Delhi and Rajasthan<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in <\/span><b>return for sharing the cost of Himachal Pradesh\u2019s portion of the power component.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>News<\/b><strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hindustantimes.com\/cities\/chandigarh-news\/8year-deadlock-over-kishau-dam-project-ends-says-sukhu-after-meeting-with-shah-101781633030106.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">HT<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kishau Dam Project is a multipurpose dam project proposed to be built on the Tons river (a major tributary of river Yamuna) along the Uttarakhand-Himachal Pradesh border.
