{"id":108684,"date":"2026-06-18T13:09:18","date_gmt":"2026-06-18T07:39:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=108684"},"modified":"2026-06-18T13:28:41","modified_gmt":"2026-06-18T07:58:41","slug":"national-statistical-commission","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/national-statistical-commission\/","title":{"rendered":"National Statistical Commission"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>National Statistical Commission Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, the Government of India has appointed a new Chairperson and three Members to the National Statistical Commission.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About National Statistical Commission<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It <\/span><b>was set up in 2005<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on the recommendations <\/span><b>of Rangarajan Commission (2000).<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Mandate:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It was established<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to serve as a nodal body for <\/span><b>all core statistical activities of the country<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and also evolve, monitor and enforce statistical priorities and standards and to ensure statistical co-ordination.<\/span><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Composition<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It consists of a <\/span><b>part-time Chairperson<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>four part-time Members<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> having specialization and experience in areas of statistics,<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>CEO of NITI Aayog<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as an <\/span><b>ex-officio Member<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>The Chief Statistician of India<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is the Secretary of the Commission. (He is also the Secretary to the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Functions of National Statistical Commission<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To <\/span><b>identify the core statistics<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which are of national importance and are critical to the development of the economy;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To <\/span><b>constitute professional committees<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or working groups to assist the Commission on various technical issues;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To <\/span><b>evolve national policies<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and priorities relating to the statistical system;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To <\/span><b>evolve standard statistical concepts<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, definitions, classifications and methodologies in different areas in statistics and lay down national quality standards on core statistics;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To <\/span><b>evolve national strategies<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for the collection, tabulation and dissemination of core statistics, including the release calendar for various data sets<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pib.gov.in\/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=2274108&amp;reg=3&amp;lang=1#:~:text\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">PIB<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>National Statistical Commission was set up in 2005 on the recommendations of Rangarajan Commission (2000).
