{"id":108993,"date":"2026-06-20T13:54:29","date_gmt":"2026-06-20T08:24:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=108993"},"modified":"2026-06-20T13:54:29","modified_gmt":"2026-06-20T08:24:29","slug":"bharat-climate-observation-network","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/bharat-climate-observation-network\/","title":{"rendered":"Bharat Climate Observation Network"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Bharat Climate Observation Network Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology and the Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Science Nainital have signed a long-term Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a climate observation station in the Himalayan region under the Bharat Climate Observation Network (BCON).<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Bharat Climate Observation Network<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>national observational initiative<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> conceptualized and implemented by <\/span><b>Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> under the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), Government of India,<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Objective:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It is to develop a <\/span><b>long-term, high-precision climate monitoring framework<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> across the country.<\/span><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Functions<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Monitor Meteorological Parameters:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> BCON will <\/span><b>monitor meteorological parameters,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> climate-active trace gases (greenhouse gases and short-lived climate forcers), atmospheric chemistry and soil moisture observations.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>National Database:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> BCON will develop a robust national database that supports the <\/span><b>detection of long term trends, advances climate change research<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and strengthens India\u2019s capacity for climate assessment and evidence based policy development.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Significance of<\/b> <b>Bharat Climate Observation Network Data<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The high accuracy datasets produced through BCON will also provide the critical validation and <\/span><b>benchmarking required for Earth System Models<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, including India\u2019s first ESM, the IITM ESM.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It enables <\/span><b>more accurate simulations<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the Indian climate change and enhances<\/span><b> future climate projections.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pib.gov.in\/PressReleaseDetail.aspx?PRID=2275048&amp;reg=48&amp;lang=1#:~:text\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">PIB<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bharat Climate Observation Network is a national observational initiative conceptualized and implemented by Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM).
