{"id":10946,"date":"2023-05-16T02:15:56","date_gmt":"2023-05-15T20:45:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=10946"},"modified":"2025-03-29T23:38:10","modified_gmt":"2025-03-29T18:08:10","slug":"what-is-idex-innovations-for-defence-excellence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/what-is-idex-innovations-for-defence-excellence\/","title":{"rendered":"What is iDEX (Innovations for Defence Excellence)?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About iDEX (Innovations for Defence Excellence):<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is the <strong>flagship initiative of the Ministry of Defence (MoD<\/strong>), launched in April <strong>2018<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Aim<\/strong>: To <strong>achieve self-reliance and foster innovation<\/strong> and technology development <strong>in Defence and Aerospace<\/strong> <strong>by engaging Industries<\/strong> including MSMEs, start-ups, individual innovators, R&amp;D institutes and academia.<\/li>\n<li>iDEX has partnered with leading incubators in the country to <strong>provide handholding, technical support and guidance to the winners of iDEX challenges<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>iDEX will be <strong>funded and managed by a \u2018Defence Innovation Organization (DIO)<\/strong>\u2019 which has been formed as a \u2018<strong>not for profit company<\/strong> as per Section 8 of the Companies Act 2013 by the two founder members, i.e. Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) &#8211; HAL &amp; BEL.<\/li>\n<li><strong>iDEX will function as the executive arm of DIO<\/strong>, carrying out all the required activities, while <strong>DIO will provide high-level policy guidance to iDEX<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Under iDEX, <strong>financial support is provided to Start-ups\/MSMEs<\/strong>\/individual innovators and Partner Incubators <strong>through DIO.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>What is Mission DefSpace?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>It was <strong>launched by<\/strong> the Prime Minister <strong>during DefExpo in October 2022<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The goal <\/strong>of Mission DefSpace is to <strong>make India Atmanirbhar in defence technologies in the space domain.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It will <strong>encourage technology development in space for defence applications by startups and young entrepreneurs through 75 Defence Space Challenges<\/strong> launched across various Department for Defence Production (DDP) initiatives viz iDEX, \u2018Make 1\u2019, and \u2018Make 2\u2019.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>challenges are classified into five buckets,<\/strong> viz.
