{"id":109494,"date":"2026-07-26T15:21:45","date_gmt":"2026-07-26T09:51:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=109494"},"modified":"2026-07-26T19:24:30","modified_gmt":"2026-07-26T13:54:30","slug":"sarinda","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/sarinda\/","title":{"rendered":"Tripura Sarinda"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Tripura Sarinda Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A bamboo and cane artisan from Tripura is showcasing the state&#8217;s traditional bamboo musical instruments, including the recently GI-tagged sarinda, at the national-level handicrafts and handloom exhibition &#8216;Indi Haat 2026&#8217; in New Delhi.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Tripura Sarinda<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>bowed string musical instrument<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which is crafted from a <\/span><b>single block of wood <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with a <\/span><b>hollow resonator.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is closely associated with <\/span><b>Tripura&#8217;s indigenous communities,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> used during folk performances and other indigenous musical expressions.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is also known as <\/span><b>Sarinda Uakhrap.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Features<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is specially made of <\/span><b>bamboo<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It also has an <\/span><b>oval-shaped void wooden vibrating chamber, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">which is covered with a thin skin.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Its<\/span><b> wider top portion is open. T<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">he waist is narrowly\u00a0 shaped.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The instrument is about 65-70 cm. The lower portion is oval.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The middle portion is large, and the edges are wide. The cave portion is uncovered.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the top portion three pegs are fitted in order to fasten the strings. The <\/span><b>strings <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are either <\/span><b>metal or of the thread of Muga or animal gut.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is played by a crude \u201cbow\u201d that is made of horse hair.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By tightening or loosening the strings, the tuning is done.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sarinda is <\/span><b>known as the \u2018\u2019Foli\u2019\u2019 instrument <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in the states of <\/span><b>Assam, Bengal, Jharkhand, Tamil, Karnataka, Rajasthan, and Gujarat<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The <\/span><b>Sarangi and Nepali Sarangi are similar <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to the Sarinda.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Bodos call it Serja or Serenja<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
