{"id":109970,"date":"2026-06-26T15:16:39","date_gmt":"2026-06-26T09:46:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=109970"},"modified":"2026-06-26T15:18:56","modified_gmt":"2026-06-26T09:48:56","slug":"netra-airborne-early-warning-and-control-system","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/netra-airborne-early-warning-and-control-system\/","title":{"rendered":"Netra Airborne Early Warning and Control System"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Netra Airborne Early Warning and Control System Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, the Defence Research &amp; Development Organisation (DRDO) handed over the Final Operational Clearance (FOC) certificate of the Indigenous \u2018Netra\u2019 Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&amp;C) system to the Indian Air Force (IAF).<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Netra Airborne Early Warning and Control System<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is an <\/span><b>airborne radar and command platform<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> built around an Embraer EMB-145 aircraft.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is commonly known as the Indian Air Force\u2019s (IAF) <\/span><b>\u201cEye in the Sky.\u201d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is developed indigenously by the <\/span><b>Bengaluru-based Centre for Airborne Systems (CABS)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>India is the fifth country<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the world to develop this capability.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Features of\u00a0 Netra Airborne Early Warning and Control System<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is designed to detect <\/span><b>incoming projectiles, ships and aircraft at long ranges<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, differentiate friend from foe and direct friendly fighters in real time.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Detection Range:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It offers real-time battlefield management, <\/span><b>250-500+ km detection ranges and 300\u00b0 to 360\u00b0 radar coverage <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to track hostile aircraft, drones and missiles.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It uses the <\/span><b>Brazilian Embraer EMB-145 aircraft as its platform<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, on which is mounted an active electronically scanned array radar in its dorsal fin.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The system encompasses a sophisticated suite of mission equipment, including an <\/span><b>Active Electronically Scanned Array <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(AESA) radar, <\/span><b>Identification Friend or Foe<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (IFF), mission computer, secure communication networks, electronic support measures (ESM) and communication support measures.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Unlike ground-based radar, an AEW&amp;C aircraft operates at altitude, allowing it to see farther over terrain and provide a broader picture of aircraft, drones and other airborne activity.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It can also <\/span><b>share real-time information<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with fighter jets, ground stations and other military assets.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>\u00a0Source: <\/b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pib.gov.in\/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=2277899&amp;reg=3&amp;lang=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">PIB<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Netra Airborne Early Warning and Control system is an airborne radar and command platform built around an Embraer EMB-145 aircraft.
