{"id":109978,"date":"2026-06-26T13:25:40","date_gmt":"2026-06-26T07:55:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=109978"},"modified":"2026-06-26T13:25:40","modified_gmt":"2026-06-26T07:55:40","slug":"helina-missile-helicopter-launched-nag","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/helina-missile-helicopter-launched-nag\/","title":{"rendered":"HELINA Missile"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>HELINA Missile Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">State-owned Bharat Dynamics Limited recently secured an order worth Rs 1,109.37 crore from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited to supply launchers for helicopter-launched anti-tank Nag (Helina) missiles.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About HELINA Missile<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">HELINA <\/span><b>(Helicopter-launched NAG)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is an indigenous, third-generation <\/span><b>&#8220;fire-and-forget&#8221; anti-tank guided missile (ATGM.)\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the <\/span><b>helicopter-based version of the Nag Anti-Tank Guided Missile (ATGM)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Air Force version <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of the missile is called <\/span><b>Dhruvastra, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">along with an ATGM version, which can be fired by soldiers.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has been developed indigenously by the <\/span><b><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/defence-research-and-development-organisation-drdo\/\" target=\"_blank\">Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)<\/a>.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>HELINA Missile <\/b><b>Features<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Helina ATGM system measures 1.94 m in length, 150 mm in diameter, and weighs 44 kg.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Helina missile systems are <\/span><b>outfitted with two twin launchers, one on each side, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">capable of <\/span><b>carrying a total of eight missiles.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It can cover distances <\/span><b>ranging between 500 m and 7,000 m<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and is <\/span><b>guided <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">by an <\/span><b>imaging infrared (IIR) seeker<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with<\/span><b> lock-on before launch <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">capability.\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It means the crew locks on to the target before the launch, and the missile then guides itself to the target without any further control from the helicopter.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>missile climbs sharply after the launch <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and then<\/span><b> plunges directly onto the top of the tank.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The system is equipped for <\/span><b>day and night operations in all weather conditions, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">capable of neutralising battle tanks equipped with both conventional armour and explosive reactive armour. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>News<\/b><strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.business-standard.com\/blueprint-defence-magazine\/reports\/what-is-helina-india-s-indigenous-helicopter-launched-anti-tank-missile-126062500822_1.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">BS<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>HELINA Missile is an indigenous, third-generation &#8220;fire-and-forget&#8221; anti-tank guided missile (ATGM).
