{"id":110122,"date":"2026-06-27T13:36:50","date_gmt":"2026-06-27T08:06:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=110122"},"modified":"2026-06-27T14:58:47","modified_gmt":"2026-06-27T09:28:47","slug":"national-war-memorial-nwm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/national-war-memorial-nwm\/","title":{"rendered":"National War Memorial (NWM)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>National War Memorial Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The names of six military personnel \u2014 five from the Indian Army and one from IAF \u2014 who died in the line of duty during Operation Sindoor have been recently inscribed on a wall at the National War Memorial as a tribute to the fallen heroes.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About National War Memorial<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The National War Memorial (<\/span><b>Rashtriya Samar Smarak)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was <\/span><b>established <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in January <\/span><b>2019.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a<\/span><b> national monument<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> built for <\/span><b>giving honour <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to our <\/span><b>brave soldiers.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is located in <\/span><b>New Delhi.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a commemoration of the <\/span><b>sacrifices made by Indian soldiers since Independence.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The<\/span><b> main structure <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">has been built in the<\/span><b> form of four chakras,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> each signifying different values of the armed forces, with the <\/span><b>eternal flame and obelisk located in the inner-most chakra<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (also called <\/span><b>Amar Chakra)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>obelisk <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">stands at a height of <\/span><b>15.5 metres<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and is visible even from a distance as one enters the complex.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Surrounding it is<\/span><b> Veerta Chakra with six bronze murals depicting different battle actions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Each mural weighs between 600 kg and 1,000 kg.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Tyag Chakra <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">which surrounds it has been made <\/span><b>entirely of granite bricks, each bearing <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the <\/span><b>name of a fallen soldier since Independence.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>final chakra \u2014 Rakshak Chakra <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014 surrounds the other three and consists of <\/span><b>over 600 trees<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that will <\/span><b>act as a wall and represent the soldiers who protect the country.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Adjacent to the main complex<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> lies a<\/span><b> tribute to the 21 <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/what-is-param-vir-chakra\/\" target=\"_blank\">Param Vir Chakra<\/a> awardees.<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Each recipient is honoured by a bronze bust<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> surrounded by a lush green patch, complete with pathways and informative plaques on the courage they displayed during battle. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>News<\/b><strong>:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/national\/names-of-six-personnel-who-died-in-action-during-op-sindoor-inscribed-at-national-war-memorial\/article71152029.ece\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>TH<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>National War Memorial is a national monument located in New Delhi built for giving honour to our brave soldiers.
