{"id":11042,"date":"2024-09-24T07:15:01","date_gmt":"2024-09-24T01:45:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=11042"},"modified":"2025-10-11T13:31:00","modified_gmt":"2025-10-11T08:01:00","slug":"nawegaon-nagzira-tiger-reserve-nntr","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/nawegaon-nagzira-tiger-reserve-nntr\/","title":{"rendered":"Nawegaon Nagzira Tiger Reserve (NNTR)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Navegaon-Nagzira Tiger Reserve (NNTR):<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Location<\/strong>: It spans 653.67 sq.km. across the Gondia and Bhandara districts of <strong>Maharashtra<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It is located in the heart of the <strong>central Indian Tiger Landscape,<\/strong> which contributes almost 1\/6 of the total tiger population of the country.<\/li>\n<li>Declared a tiger reserve in 2013, it is the fifth tiger reserve in Maharashtra.<\/li>\n<li>NNTR is comprised of the notified areas of Nawegaon National Park, Nawegaon Wildlife Sanctuary, Nagzira Wildlife Sanctuary, New Nagzira Wildlife Sanctuary, and Koka Wildlife Sanctuary.<\/li>\n<li>It has <strong>linkages with Kanha, Pench, and Tadoba Tiger Reserves.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Topography<\/strong>: The topography is undulating, and the highest point, viz. \u2018Zenda Pahad\u2019, is around 702 m above Mean Sea Level.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Vegetation<\/strong>: <strong>Southern Tropical Dry Deciduous<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Flora<\/strong>: There are 364 species of plants, and the major trees are: <strong>Terminalia tomentosa<\/strong>, <strong>Lagerstroemia parviflora<\/strong>, Anogeisus lotifolia, Pterocarpus marsupium, Diospyrus melanoxylon, Ougeinia oogenesis, etc.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fauna<\/strong>: The major wild animals are: <strong>Tiger, Panther<\/strong>, <strong>Small Indian Civet, Palm Civet, Wolf<\/strong>, Jackal, Wild Dog, <strong>Sloth Bear,<\/strong> Ratel, <strong>Common Giant Flying Squirrel<\/strong>, Gaur, Sambar, Chital, Four Horned Antelope, Mouse Deer, and <strong>Pangolin<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1<\/strong>: What is a Tiger Reserve?<\/h3>\n<p>Tiger Reserve is a legally declared protected area dedicated to the conservation of striped big cats. A tiger reserve, on the other hand, could be a national park or wildlife sanctuary.
