{"id":11050,"date":"2026-06-26T12:22:01","date_gmt":"2026-06-26T06:52:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=11050"},"modified":"2026-06-26T13:09:28","modified_gmt":"2026-06-26T07:39:28","slug":"kiru-hydro-electric-power-project-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/kiru-hydro-electric-power-project-news\/","title":{"rendered":"Kiru Hydroelectric Power Project"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Kiru Hydroelectric Power Project Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Kiru Hydroelectric Power Project in Kishtwar district of Chenab Valley has entered the final phase of construction, with the latest monitoring report of the Centre showing that more than 83 percent of the work has been completed. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Kiru Hydroelectric Power Project<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>624 MW run-of-the-river scheme <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">being developed over the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/chenab-river\/\" target=\"_blank\"><b> Chenab River<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in Kishtwar District of <\/span><b>Jammu and Kashmir (J&amp;K).<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is located <\/span><b>between the Kirthai II hydroelectric project upstream <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and the <\/span><b>Kwar hydroelectric project<\/b> <b>downstream<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The project will include the construction of a<\/span><b> concrete gravity dam<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with a height of 135 m and an <\/span><b>underground powerhouse<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> located on the left bank of the river that will comprise four vertical Francis turbines with a capacity of 156 MW each.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The project is being <\/span><b>developed by Chenab Valley Power Projects (CVPP)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a <\/span><b>joint venture <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">between <\/span><b>National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC, 49%)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,<\/span><b> Jammu &amp; Kashmir State Power Development Corporation (JKSPDC, 49%<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), and <\/span><b>Power Trading Corporation (PTC, 2%).\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The project shall provide much-needed power in the northern grid and shall accelerate the process of development of remote areas of J&amp;K.\u00a0 <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>News<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greaterkashmir.com\/jammu-kashmir\/kiru-hydropower-project-enters-final-stretch-completion-targeted-for-december-2026-12069966\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">GK<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kiru Hydroelectric Project is a 624-megawatt (MW) run-of-river project being developed over the Chenab River.
