Commission (NMC) recently proposed a UID system for doctors, allowing nationwide practice without separate state registration or licenses. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About National Medical Commission<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>statutory body<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> constituted by the <\/span><b>National Medical Commission Act, 2019,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which came into force on September 25, 2020.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It <\/span><b>replaced <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the <\/span><b>Medical Council of India (MCI) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and serves as the <\/span><b>top regulatory authority for medical education, medical professionals, and medical institutions <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in India.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It <\/span><b>grants recognition of medical qualifications,<\/b> <b>gives accreditation to medical schools, grants registration to medical practitioners,<\/b> <b>monitors <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">medical practice, and assesses the medical infrastructure in India.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Headquarters: New Delhi<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>National Medical Commission <\/b><b>Functions<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Establish Policies and Regulations:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Laying down policies to maintain high quality and standards in medical education and making necessary regulations.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Regulate Medical Institutions and Professionals:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Developing policies to regulate medical institutions, research, and professionals.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Assess Healthcare Needs:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Assessing the requirements in healthcare, including human resources and healthcare infrastructure, and developing a roadmap to meet these needs.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Coordinate Autonomous Boards:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Promoting, coordinating, and framing guidelines for the proper functioning of the Commission, Autonomous Boards, and State Medical Councils.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Ensure Compliance:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Ensuring that State Medical Councils comply with the guidelines and regulations framed by the NMC.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Exercise Appellate Jurisdiction: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Acting as an appellate body for decisions made by the Autonomous Boards.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Promote Ethical Conduct:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Laying down policies and codes to ensure observance of professional ethics in the medical profession.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Frame Fee Guidelines<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Framing guidelines <\/span><b>for determining fees and other charges for 50% of seats in private medical institutions and deemed universities.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other Powers and Functions: Performing such other functions as may be prescribed.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>National Medical Commission <\/b><b>Composition<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It consists of <\/span><b>33 members,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> including the <\/span><b>Chairperson <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(medical professionals only), <\/span><b>10 ex-officio members<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>22 part-time members.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Medical Advisory Council:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It provides the <\/span><b>platform <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">through which the<\/span><b> States or UTs can put forth their views and concerns<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> before the NMC and <\/span><b>advises the NMC <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">on measures to determine and maintain minimum standards of medical education.<\/span><\/li>\n<li
