{"id":11054,"date":"2024-04-05T07:40:25","date_gmt":"2024-04-05T02:10:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=11054"},"modified":"2025-03-30T00:16:36","modified_gmt":"2025-03-29T18:46:36","slug":"national-medical-commission-nmc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/national-medical-commission-nmc\/","title":{"rendered":"What is National Medical Commission (NMC)?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About National Medical Commission (NMC):<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It\u00a0has been constituted by the\u00a0<strong>National Medical Commission Act, 2019,<\/strong>\u00a0which came into force on September 25, 2020.<\/li>\n<li>It\u00a0<strong>replaced<\/strong>\u00a0the erstwhile\u00a0<strong>Medical Council of India (MCI).\u00a0<\/strong>It regulates medical education and medical professionals in the country.<\/li>\n<li>It\u00a0grants recognition of medical qualifications,\u00a0gives\u00a0<strong>accreditation to medical schools<\/strong>,\u00a0grants\u00a0<strong>registration to medical practitioners<\/strong>, monitors medical practice, and\u00a0assesses the medical infrastructure in India.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Headquarters:\u00a0<\/strong>New Delhi<\/li>\n<li><strong>Functions<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>lay down policies<\/strong>\u00a0for maintaining high quality and high standards in medical education and make necessary regulations on this behalf;<\/li>\n<li>lay down policies for<strong>\u00a0regulating medical institutions<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>medical researches<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>medical professionals<\/strong>\u00a0and make necessary regulations in this behalf;<\/li>\n<li><strong>assess the requirements in healthcare<\/strong>, including human resources for health and healthcare infrastructure<\/li>\n<li>take such measures, as may be necessary, to ensure compliance by the<strong>\u00a0State Medical Councils<\/strong>\u00a0of the guidelines framed<\/li>\n<li>exercise\u00a0<strong>appellate jurisdiction<\/strong>\u00a0with respect to the decisions of the Autonomous Boards;<\/li>\n<li>lay down policies and codes to ensure observance of\u00a0<strong>professional ethics in the medical profession<\/strong>\u00a0and to promote\u00a0<strong>ethical conduct<\/strong>\u00a0during the provision of care by medical practitioners;<\/li>\n<li>frame\u00a0<strong>guidelines for determination of fees<\/strong>\u00a0and all other charges in respect of fifty percent of seats in private medical institutions and deemed to be universities which are governed under the provisions of this Act;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Composition:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It consists\u00a0of\u00a0<strong>33 members,\u00a0<\/strong>including\u00a0the Chairperson\u00a0(medical professionals only),\u00a010 ex-officio members\u00a0and\u00a022 part-time members.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Medical Advisory Council<\/strong>:\u00a0It\u00a0provides the platform\u00a0through which the\u00a0States or UTs can put forth their views\u00a0and concerns before the NMC and\u00a0advises the NMC\u00a0on measures to determine and maintain minimum standards of medical education.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Four autonomous boards:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Under-Graduate Medical Education Board<\/li>\n<li>Post-Graduate Medical Education Board<\/li>\n<li>Medical Assessment and Rating Board<\/li>\n<li>Ethics and Medical Registration Board<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What is AYUSH?<\/h3>\n<p>AYUSH is an acronym for Ayurveda, Yoga &amp; naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homoeopathy, a consortium of indigenous systems of allied medical sciences.
