{"id":110546,"date":"2026-06-30T12:58:37","date_gmt":"2026-06-30T07:28:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=110546"},"modified":"2026-06-30T14:11:04","modified_gmt":"2026-06-30T08:41:04","slug":"scheme-for-strengthening-of-medical-device-industry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/scheme-for-strengthening-of-medical-device-industry\/","title":{"rendered":"Scheme for Strengthening of Medical Device Industry"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Scheme for Strengthening of Medical Device Industry Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, has invited applications from eligible entities under the Scheme for Strengthening of Medical Device Industry (SMDI) to promote domestic manufacturing.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Scheme for Strengthening of Medical Device Industry<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a comprehensive scheme which targets critical <\/span><b>areas of the medical device industry.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It covers manufacturing of key <\/span><b>components and accessories<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, skill development, support for clinical studies, development of common infrastructure and industry promotion.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has a total <\/span><b>outlay of 500 Crores.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Sub-schemes of Scheme for Strengthening of Medical Device Industry (SMDI)<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Common Facilities for Medical Devices Clusters:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Common facilities for medical devices clusters, the Central Government will provide financial <\/span><b>assistance to medical device clusters<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for <\/span><b>creating common infrastructure<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> facilities such as R&amp;D labs, Design and Testing Centre, Animal Labs etc.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Marginal Investment Scheme for Reducing Import Dependence:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It is designed to deepen the <\/span><b>MedTech supply chain in the country<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, by focusing on manufacturing of key components, raw materials, and accessories within the country.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It offers a <\/span><b>one-time capital subsidy of 10-20%,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with a maximum cap of Rs 10 crore per project.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Capacity Building and Skill Development for Medical Devices:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It focuses on capacity <\/span><b>building and skill development<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for the medical device sector.
