The park is <\/span><b>particularly significant for conserving the Snow Leopard<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and other threatened mountain species, making it a vital component of India\u2019s Himalayan conservation landscape.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Kishtwar National Park<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><b>Kishtwar National Park<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was established to conserve the unique biodiversity and fragile ecosystems of the <\/span><b>Greater Himalayas<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Location<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Situated in Kishtwar district of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, about 40 km from Kishtwar town.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Established<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Declared a National Park on 4 February 1981. It was initially spread over about 425 sq. km and was later expanded to approximately 2,190.5 sq. km.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Altitude<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Ranges from about 1,800 metres to nearly 6,000 metres above sea level.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is <\/span><b>one of India\u2019s largest high-altitude national parks<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and an important habitat for the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/snow-leopard-in-india\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Snow Leopard<\/strong><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, supporting several other rare and threatened Himalayan species.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It protects the catchments of the <\/span><b>Kiber, Nanth, Kiyar, and Renai nallahs<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which ultimately drain into the <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/chenab-river\/\" target=\"_blank\">Chenab River<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> basin.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Kishtwar National Park Geography<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kishtwar National Park is characterised by a <\/span><b>rugged Himalayan landscape shaped by steep mountain ranges, deep valleys, glaciers, and alpine terrain<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
