A significant change has taken place in the <\/span>Supreme Court Collegium<\/b>, the body responsible for recommending the appointment and transfer of judges in India’s higher judiciary. Following the retirement of <\/span>Justice J.K. Maheshwari<\/b>, <\/span>Justice P. S. Narasimha<\/b> has become the newest and fifth member of the Collegium.<\/span><\/p>\n

As the <\/span>fifth senior-most judge of the Supreme Court<\/b>, Justice P. S. Narasimha will remain a member of the Collegium until his retirement, playing a key role in decisions related to judicial appointments and transfers.<\/span><\/p>\n

Why Has the Supreme Court Collegium Changed?<\/b><\/h2>\n

The change in the Collegium became effective after <\/span>Justice J.K. Maheshwari<\/b> retired from the Supreme Court upon completing nearly <\/span>five years of service<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to the seniority convention followed in the Supreme Court, the <\/span>fifth senior-most judge<\/b> becomes a member of the Collegium whenever a vacancy arises. As a result, <\/span>Justice P. S. Narasimha<\/b> has now joined the Collegium.<\/span><\/p>\n
