{"id":110969,"date":"2026-07-02T13:12:58","date_gmt":"2026-07-02T07:42:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=110969"},"modified":"2026-07-02T13:12:58","modified_gmt":"2026-07-02T07:42:58","slug":"paleoindia-portal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/paleoindia-portal\/","title":{"rendered":"PaleoIndia Portal"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>PaleoIndia Portal Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Union Minister of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change recently launched the PaleoIndia Portal.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About PaleoIndia Portal<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>digital initiative<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> developed jointly by the <\/span><b>\u00a0Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) and the National Centre for Sustainable Coastal Management (NCSCM), Chennai,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> using <\/span><b>dynamic geological maps provided by the GSI<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The digital platform <\/span><b>documents fossil fauna<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> across all<\/span><b> 28 states and 8 Union Territories.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It currently hosts information on <\/span><b>more than 5,000 fossil specimens<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> spanning <\/span><b>mammals, reptiles, birds,<\/b> <b>fishes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>amphibians<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, molluscs, arthropods, foraminifera, echinoderms, and ichnofossils.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It features a <\/span><b>real-time data upload system<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to <\/span><b>enable field-based and citizen science contributions <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for safeguarding India\u2019s paleontological heritage.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Key Facts about National Centre for Sustainable Coastal Management<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was established by the <\/span><b>Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change (MoEF&amp;CC) in 2011<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as an <\/span><b>autonomous institution<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to support the protection, <\/span><b>conservation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, rehabilitation,<\/span><b> management, and policy advice of the coast.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Headquarters: Chennai, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tamil Nadu<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Aims and Objectives:<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Strive for being a world-class knowledge institution related to coastal zones, environment, resources, and processes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To <\/span><b>promote <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">integrated and <\/span><b>sustainable management of the coastal <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and marine <\/span><b>areas in India<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for the benefit and <\/span><b>well-being of the traditional coastal and island communities.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Advise the Union and State Governments and other associated stakeholder(s) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">on policy and scientific matters related to Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Its work includes <\/span><b>coastal vulnerability assessments, coastal environmental impact studies, mapping of <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/eco-sensitive-zones\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ecologically Sensitive Areas (ESAs)<\/a><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><b>creating Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) plans.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Six Research Divisions <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of the NCSCM are:\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Geospatial Sciences, Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems (GIS),\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Integrated Social Sciences &amp;
