


{"id":11110,"date":"2023-05-20T02:21:00","date_gmt":"2023-05-19T20:51:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=11110"},"modified":"2025-03-30T00:36:14","modified_gmt":"2025-03-29T19:06:14","slug":"about-koundinya-wildlife-sanctuary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/about-koundinya-wildlife-sanctuary\/","title":{"rendered":"About Koundinya Wildlife Sanctuary"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Koundinya Wildlife Sanctuary:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is located in Palamner &#8211; Kuppam forest ranges of <strong>Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is the <strong>only sanctuary<\/strong> in the whole state <strong>housing Asian elephants.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>This Sanctuary comes <strong>under Project elephant <\/strong>&#8211; a Country wide Elephant Conservation Project taken up by Government of India.<\/li>\n<li><strong>River Kaigal and River Kaundinya <\/strong>flow through this sanctuary and is characterized by <strong>high hills, deep valleys<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/forests.ap.gov.in\/kaundinya.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><strong>Flora<\/strong><\/a><strong>:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Forest type:<\/strong> <strong>Southern tropical dry deciduous forest<\/strong>, with patches of thorn, scrub and grassy plains.<\/li>\n<li>Plants like Albizzia amara, Ficus glomerata, Zizyphus xylocarpus, Gymnosporia Montana, etc; make this a <strong>green panoramic place<\/strong> with a breathtaking floral diversity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/forests.ap.gov.in\/kaundinya.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><strong>Fauna<\/strong><\/a><strong>:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Insects like Painted grasshopper, Plain tiger butterfly, Common grass yellow butterfly etc.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Reptiles<\/strong> like Common cobra, Rat snake, Indian rock python, Forest calotes, Skinks, etc.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Birds<\/strong> like Partidges, quails, storks, Cotton teal, etc; make this Sanctuary their domicile.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Mammals<\/strong> like <strong>Indian Elephant<\/strong>, Panther, Sloth bear, Wild boar, <strong>Chowsingha, Nilgai,<\/strong> <strong>Hyena, Jackal<\/strong>, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) Do Asian elephants live in India?<\/h3>\n<p>More than 50% are in India, where their range is largest. Populations live in just a few pockets of land in Sri Lanka. In Sumatra, elephants have lost 70% of their native habitat.
